Published in seven folio volumes between 1840 and 1848, it contains more than 700 hand-coloured plates, largely the work if Gould and his wife Elizabeth. In addition, Mr Chisholm has written a substantial introduction dealing with Gould' life and his work on the birds and animals if Australia. For the first time in more than hundred years, a part of this great work us now brought within the reach of the general reader.
