Reconversion of the Braga Market into a Music School - Twenty years ago, when I designed the market, the idea was to create a covered street, a fragment of the city capable of proposing an urban grid. That grid occurred, it over occurred, and the market drowned between schools, nightclubs and unrestraint real estate speculation. During this time, in the various visits I made to the ruin, I noticed the market was being used as a bridge, as a street, a necessary crossing between two of the city's axis. In this project I propose removing the roof, designing a garden, a street and building a "cultural" program in the little that remains. House in Llábia This house is situated in the lower part of a small town in Girona province where the traditional buildings are in natural stone. The by-laws obliged us to use stone, this type of roof and the vertical windows. The house strives to adapt to the scale of the environs more than to the "picturesque" qualities of this geography. Five attached volumes with different heights and between them, two patios, prolongations of the house, which are sheltered from the Pyrenees: the "Tramontana". Eduardo Souto de Moura was born on the 25th of July, 1952, in Oporto, Portugal. He studied architecture at the School of Fine Arts in Oporto, receiving his degree in 1980. In 1974 he collaborated in the architectural practice of Noé Dinis. From 1975 to 1979 he collaborated in the architectural practice of Álvaro Siza. From 1981 to 1991, he was assistant professor in his alma mater, and later began to serve as professor in the Faculty of Architecture in the University of Oporto. Own office since 1980. He has been visiting professor at the architectural schools of Paris-Belleville, Harvard, Dublin, ETH Zurich and Lausanne. He has participated in numerous seminars and given many lectures both in Portugal and abroad. His work has appeared in various publications and exhibitions. In 2011 he received the Pritzker Prize.
