Old Testament prophecy comes alive in this great vintage collectible covering all of the Minor Prophets of the Old Testament. This is a great 205-page volume providing an overview of each of the 12 Old Testament Minor Prophets. The flyleaf states: "The twelve so-called minor prophets of Israel here offer some major insights for today's world. 'When we get within them and behind their historical settings,' says Dr. Calkins, 'it is astonishing to discover how applicable they are to modern human and social problems. They are seen to have an almost startling relevancy to the world in which today we live." (And those comments were said more than 50 years ago yet still practical for the 21st century!)This book examines one by one each Minor Prophet, scholarly examining their origin, content, and relevance to the culture.A very good chronological table is given an entire page near the beginning of the book as well as a good 'names and subjects' index at the back of the book. There is also an expanded 25-page "Appendix: Exegesis of the Text" covering all of the Minor Prophetic books. From 1912-1940, Dr. Calkins was the pastor of First Church, Cambridge, MA, and authored more than 9 books in his lifetime.Very Good. All pages are crisp and intact with limited amount of pencil underlining.NOhighlighting! NOT ex-Library. There is a name & an ExLibris inside. The spine is good, the binding is tight and the hinges strong, with no creases. Very Good+ covers with bright blue boards although spine is partially faded; no stains, or corner bumps. Dust cover/jacket is faded and has some rips on the front top and the bottom near spine; professionally covered with library grade Mylar. The pictures depict the actual book you will receive. (The shine/reflection in the photo is due to the Mylar covering.) Generally, ships on the same business day! Ships with Tracking Number! Countries other than the USA will require an additional shipping cost., Harper & Brothers, 1947, 3, This is an extremely attractive looking volume though read! In excellent condition! The back cover states: "Nothing cripples a church's effectiveness like internal strife. In Philippi, Paul addressed a congregation whose private struggles were compounded by opposition and suffering from without. Paul's strategy was to write them a letter of friendship and moral exhortation, reminding them of their "partnership in the gospel," their mutual suffering for the cause of Christ, and their need to "stand firm in one spirit." His approach and counsel can serve us well today. In this warm, well-written study of Philippians, readers will find an introduction that discusses the letter's occasion and purpose, authorship, and other background information, as well as its important theological themes. Passage-by-passage commentary follows that seeks to explain what the letter means to us today as well as what it meant for its original hearers. Students, pastors, Bible teachers and everyone who wants to understand the Paul's message for the church will benefit from this excellent resource." This is a 1999 copyright 204 page hardback volume with only 17 pages out of 204 marked. Good++ to Very Good. Though read it still OPENS AS UNREAD! NOT ex-Library. Initials & ExLibris on FEP.
