I have sent yr Loppe ye protestation of some of ye Ld agt ye Act of Recognition, about wch ther hath been soe many and hot debates. The reasons of ye protest are, by order of ye majority of ye Lords by five, razed out of ye journal; but ye names of ye protesting lords remaine, and they have with reason entred their protest ag1 ye razure of yt reason for their first protest. Last night a fire begun, about 12 at night, at ye coffee house over yc mews gate, wch burnt wth yt violence yt it wase thought fit to blow up ye adjoyning houses on each hand, wch put a stop to it. Some of my old botanick acquaintances, having made an appointmt to goe yesterday to Hampton Court (to see ye famous collection ther of ye rare Indian plantes wch mine Ileer Fagel had gathered together), called on me, and I heartily wishd yr Loppc had been ther, for then is about 400 rare Indian plantes wch were never seen in England; and there is scarce any desirable Indian plant, but a specimen may be seen ther; and some very curious Indian plants are in so great perfection yt it is very wonderfull and scarce credible. The stoves in wch they are kept are much better contrived and built then any other in England. Wee went by water and called at a DTM house by ye way, wher I saw a very pretty flowering shrubb in his greenhouse, and I have enclosed 2 or 3 seeds, all I coud get; and if carefully sowed on a hotbed, I doubt not but they will come up. The greatest news I can send you from here is yt yr Abjuration Bill is flung out of ye House of Commons, at wch, it is said, some are soe displeased y ther will be another bill brought in much to ye same effect.
