I want to tell you a story that will give you advice on how to develop a real romance that saturates your marriage and bonds the two of you together as one—for life. Now slow down. Before you dive into my “love letter,” let me warn you, this book is not for the faint of heart. Nor is it for those who might blush at the thought of a personal discussion about babying, petting, touching, kissing, watching, listening, gentleness, tenderness, faithfulness, marital sex and so much more—but only within the bounds of your marriage. Some individuals do not care to go there because they fear that some of the things discussed in my “love letter” might offend their Christian sensibilities. If you’re married, or hoping soon to be, grow up and get over it! “The marriage bed is undefiled!” Actually, it’s pleasing to God and necessary for a wholesome, healthy marriage. You see, God designed this lovey-dovey, touchy-feely, kissy-flirty, sexually-exclusive husband-and-wife Monopoly game called “Married for Life.” He knows how it’s supposed to be played and he wants it played right—no cheating! And by the way, he also knew that this thing called love isn’t rocket science so He’s the one who wrote the book on the subject. It could be called, “Christian Marriage for Dummies.” “So,” you say, “obviously, you’re an expert in marriage counseling with three PhDs, highly qualified to write on this subject?” No. Actually I’m just an old guy who was married for forty-seven years to one of the most wonderful girls God ever gave to a man. What I’ve learned about staying married to the same woman all those years, I learned literally by accident and mostly from her. Oh, I’ve read books and articles and listened to sermons and seminars like the next guy, but most of my “wisdom,” if I would be so bold as to call it that, came only after my sweetheart went to heaven in the early-morning hours of May 5th, 2009. I’ve spent many hours with the Lord since then, during which time he has reminded me of all those wonderful things my sweetheart and I learned together through our 47 years. Remembering the good things, mostly on her side of the fence, brings tears of sweet joy. The failures, almost all on my side of the relationship, haunt me, even though my Lord has forgiven the many times I failed him, my sweetheart, and my family. “Honeymoon is heavy with dialogue.
