La Fiera di Valencia è l'istituzione dedicata all'organizzazione di fiere commerciali più antica di Spagna: fondata nel 1917, ha compiuto 90 anni di attività. Oggi dispone della più ampia superficie espositiva del paese con i suoi 230.000 metri quadrati di superficie coperta e conta più di un milione e trecento visitatori l'anno provenienti da tutto il mondo. Situata a circa cinque chilometri dal centro urbano di Valencia, la fiera è collegata alle maggiori reti viarie che attraversano il paese, oltre che con il porto della città, uno dei più attivi del Mediterraneo. L'intervento si articola in due macro strutture quadrangolari contenenti i padiglioni, divise da un lungo asse centrale, costituito da una copertura di vetro e acciaio: una strada che diviene simbolo di passaggio e aggregazione. L'obiettivo del progetto di ampliamento e modernizzazione della fiera adempie a una doppia necessità: estendere gli spazi espositivi e dotare di servizi moderni una struttura progettata per accogliere milioni di visitatori l'anno. Di seguito la biografia dell'architetto: José María Tomás-Llavador (Valencia, 1954) si laurea alla facoltá di architettura del Politecnico di Valencia nel 1981. Lavora come architetto per il Comune di Valencia fino al 1992, anno nel quale fonda il suo studio professionale nel quale progetta opere fondamentali per lo sviluppo urbano e il lancio internazionale della cittá. Responsabile del progetto e della realizzazione della nuova Fiera di Valencia, ha partecipato alla riqualificazione dell'area portuale con il progetto "Balcon al mar", con il Master Plan per la trentaduesima America's Cup e alla proposta vincitrice del concorso internazionale "Valencia al mar - Marina Real Juan Carlos I", firmata con Jean Nouvel e Ribas Asociados., Motta Architettura 24 Ore, 2010<
